Vicar's Summer update

Monday 11th August

Dear Friends
I hope that you are enjoying a good summer and that those who are or have been away have a good break. The 40 of us who went to New Wine had an amazing time and we are hoping that even more will come next year: mark the dates now 25th July – 1st August 2015. For those who might want to come but would prefer not to camp, it’s best to arrange hiring a local cottage or booking B&B as early as possible.

Andrew Dixon is preparing to return to Zambia in September with a team from Christians Aware.  They will again be undertaking maintenance work in the rural hospital of St Francis Katete – if you would like to help support this work you can donate at Church via a blue gift aid envelope.

I am sure that we are all appalled by the terrible situation in Iraq.  Yesterday at the 10.30am service Caroline Newbold outlined some things that we can do to help – more details here on six things YOU can do.  Andrew and Susy Dand will be praying for the situation on Wednesday 13th August at 8pm and would love others to join them at 26 Drayton Gardens, W13 0LQ.

On Saturday 30th August (8.30am – 10.30am) there will be another Women’s Breakfast with the speaker being Revd Ros Yates from St Dunstan’s Acton – more information here.  The following Sunday 7th September we will have a Church Picnic after the 10.30am service to mark the end of the summer holidays and the start of a new term.  Do come and join us.

The Salvation Army are opening Prayer Rooms in Leeland Road, West Ealing and we are invited to go along to see their new facilities between 10 am - 3pm Tuesday - Friday and 9am - 2pm on Saturday.  The formal opening ceremony will be taking place at 7 pm on Saturday 20th September. Ealing Churches are planning a week of 24/7 prayer at the Salvation Army Centre later in the autumn.

Finally, you will be delighted, or appalled, to learn that a new football season is upon us.  Whether you know about football or not you are invited to join the St Stephen’s Fantasy Football league – it’s completely free and lots of fun.  Joining the league couldn't be easier. Simply use this link and you'll be added automatically after you've entered the game.  You shouldn't need the league code, but just in case here it is: 597672-151170.

Wishing you rest and peace over the coming weeks.

Steve
