Vicar's start of term update

Tuesday 2nd September

If you have been away this summer I hope that you have enjoyed a good holiday and are feeling refreshed and ready for a new start.

A new term begins this Sunday 7th September and I hope you plan to be in church so that we can mark the beginning together.  We will have Communion at our 10.30am All Age Worship and during the service will witness David and Doreen Samaroo renewing their marriage vows as they celebrate 50 years of marriage.  We will also be praying for all those who work in education at the beginning of a new school year.  After the 10.30 service we will be having a church picnic in Cleveland Park (where we held the Community Fete).  Please do plan to stay and bring along your own picnic; there may even be a few games!

Alpha begins at 7.30pm on Wednesday 1st October.  Alpha has now been run in literally thousands of churches of all denominations and provides an excellent format for people to ask questions about Christianity.  Over the past four years it has had a huge impact on people’s lives at St Stephen’s and much of our church growth is connected in some way to the course.  We want to make this year’s course bigger than ever and will be combining it with Youth Alpha for our young people.  The most effective way for visitors to come is for you to invite them and come along with them on the first week.  Please do pray and think and look for opportunities to invite others.

On Sunday 28th September The Ealing Half Marathon takes place again running right past the Church car park.  Local roads will be closed to traffic from about 9.00am.  We will hold a shortened 9am service but not a 10.30am service. There will be an Informal Communion Service at 6.30pm, however.   In the morning, our Café will be located in the church car park where there will be some worship and other music as the runners pass.  More volunteers are needed to staff the St Stephen’s Water Station which is being coordinated by our own Carol Travers.  Please volunteer on line (http://www.ealinghalfmarathon.com/) stating that you wish to staff the St Stephen’s Water Station.  There will be a briefing session at Church on Sunday 21st September at 2pm.

We will be celebrating Harvest on the weekend of 4th/5th October.  On Saturday 4th there will be an evening Ceilidh for all ages starting at 6.30pm.  Then on Sunday 5th we will hold a single morning service at 10.30am.  This is a joint service for both morning congregations; a chance for whole church family to come together.  The weekend will conclude with a special Harvest themed evening service at 6.30pm.

There is lots going on and a new Term Card with full details will be available to collect this Sunday.

With my love

Steve
