Vicar's update 6th NovemberSteve Newbold 2017 web2

The last week has been full but exciting.  Nearly 70 children and their families came to the Light Party, the Quiet Morning on Saturday was well received and provided much needed space for many of us and yesterday was a good day with the baptism of baby Richard Istoc at our All Age Celebration and a moving Memorial Service in the afternoon.

One of our Church Values is ‘ensuring that worship and prayer are at the centre of all we do’ -  The Bible teaches there is power in meeting with others to pray, indeed Jesus said 'for where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them' (Matthew 18:20).  Can you join us at our monthly Prayer Meeting which takes place tomorrow (Tuesday 7th) 8pm – 9pm.

Next Sunday (12th) is Remembrance Sunday.  As usual the main act of Remembrance will take place during the 10.30am service.  We are particularly looking forward to welcoming David Runcorn who was Vicar here from 1990 – 1996.  David is the final outside speaker in our 150th anniversary year and will be speaking at both morning services.  David is a prolific writer and his latest book (Silence: The Gateway to God) is available on the Bookstall.

On Sunday evening at 6.30pm we have Open to God.  This week's subject is tackling worry –  a challenge for many of us.  Come along for a time of extended sung worship, teaching and prayer ministry.

Do you enjoy singing?  We are beginning rehearsals for the Christmas Choir to sing at the Carol Services and can always do with more members.  If you'd like to know more ask James Harvey (jharvey@jamesharveyassociates.co.uk) or simply turn up at Church on Thursday at 7.30pm.

Finally, can I say a huge thank you to everyone who has made a new or fresh financial pledge for 2018 (it's not too late if you are still to do yours).  Our Giving Co-ordinators are processing the details this week but if you need to amend your  monthly standing order can you please ensure that you do so with your bank?   Given the current financial challenge if any of us are able to make the change a month early (i.e. in time for December) the additional giving will be very helpful in balancing the church 2017 budget.
Have a great week

Steve
