Vicar's update 3rd September
This Sunday (23rd) we welcome Bishop Pete to our 10.30am service. During the service Eleanor Coomber and Linda Rivans will be baptised (by full immersion) and confirmed. Please do come to witness this special event and prayerfully support them both. Also at this service we will say farewell to the Kurkalang family who are leaving us as Urmila begins her training for the ordained ministry. After the 10.30am service we will have coffee and cake. I hope that many will come at 10.30am but for any who can’t we will hold a shortened 9.00am said Traditional Communion Service.
Open to God will be at 6.30pm and, this week, Chris Willis our Youth Worker will be speaking. As usual there will be worship, teaching and prayer ministry.
Also next weekend our missional community on the Gurnell Grove Estate are hosting a fun weekend with the Eden Youth Bus. They need some volunteers to help staff the event and I am grateful to all those who signed up yesterday. We still need a few more on Saturday (2pm-6pm or 7.30pm – 9pm) and on Sunday (1pm – 4pm). We also need a couple more to help with a BBQ on Sunday 5pm – 7.30pm. If you can help in any way please do let me know by return – it’s a great way of us supporting this important work in an (until recently) neglected part of our Parish.
The following Sunday (30th) is the Ealing Half Marathon. There are no morning services at St Stephen’s – instead we are running a free Community Café in the car park as well as the race Water Station. The UFO steel band will be present so come along to help and support us. In the afternoon we all come together for Café Church (with children and youth groups) at 4.30pm.
Mark Tate and our own Jason Johnson are leading a small team of runners for The Grove Community https://mydonate.bt.com/events/thegrovecommunity/470889. Sharon Fasanya is running for Save the Children http://www.justgiving.com/Sharon-Fasanya?utm_id=124. Support them if you can.
Don’t forget, Alpha begins on Thursday 27th September - Caroline preached a great sermon yesterday encouraging us all to invite someone to 'come and see'. You can listen to her talk on the website. A number have already signed up and if you are thinking of coming or bringing a guest, please do let us know asap.
Have a good week.
