Vicar's update 25th November
I’m sure you’ll agree that we need to do all we can to support and encourage our young people in their faith. Tomorrow evening (Wednesday) between 5.00pm and 8.00pm we are hosting a prayer space where we can pray for our young people and youth work at St Stephen’s. It’s not a prayer meeting, just drop in when you can, for a few minutes or longer.
Our Christmas Bazaar on Saturday was a great success raising around £4,000 for the work of Ealing Christians against Poverty. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard or came to support the event. The biggest expression of thanks must go to Sue Charlton who organised the day and has been working towards it all year - thank you Sue. Azniv Pambakian from Ealing Christians against Poverty was interviewed at both morning services on Sunday and you can hear what she had to say here.
Next Sunday, marks the beginning of Advent and I want to encourage you to focus on the meaning of the season and not get swept away too soon by Christmas preparations. During our Sunday morning services in December we will be unpacking the four great themes of Advent – Hope, Peace, Love and Joy.
To help us prepare there is a Quiet Morning in Church on Saturday (1st), 10am - 12.30pm. Like the Youth Prayer Space, just drop in when you can and enjoy some peace in this busy season. You might also like to use an Advent book from the Church bookstall or download an app like the ones from Tear Fund, the Bible Society or the one recently launched by Bishop Sarah which you can download from the SPCK website here.
Finally, thanks to your generous responses to our recent financial appeal the Church Council have been able to agree the Church budget for 2019. If you made a new or revised pledge, can you please action it with your bank as soon as possible so that the church receives the income that you intend. This is really important as we have had to take out some loans to fund the building work and need to start repaying those in the New Year. Many thanks.
Have a good week.
