Vicar's update 28th JanuarySteve Newbold 2017 web2

We had another busy and exciting weekend.  On Saturday morning over 100 women gathered for our Women’s Breakfast.  As well as enjoying a wonderful buffet, those attending heard from the Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin (Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons) about her life and faith journey and how she has overcome many barriers.  Her talk is on our website here and worth listening to.

On Sunday morning we were joined by the Revd Chris Rose from the Amos Trust who challenged us to be people of hope in an increasingly difficult world.  His talk is also on the website here.  Chris then stayed for People and Planet Gathering and gave a practical demonstration by making some Palestinian salads.

On Sunday evening, Sam Sanya spoke at Open to God and helped us to think about being people of praise.  His talk is here on the website.

We are currently in urgent need of more volunteers in some key areas of church life.   We need people to help with Sunday Café, our children and youth groups (Sunday and at Shining Stars on a Tuesday morning), serving in church and Saturday church preparation.  All of these roles are on a rota basis so no one has to do too much.  Might God be calling you to help out and be more involved in what we do - if so please do let me know.

If you are the parent of children you may be aware that we allow baptised children of all ages to receive the bread and wine at Communion.  The choice of when to allow this is up to you but we encourage you to allow children to receive - Communion is a sacrament of God’s grace and a detailed knowledge of what everything means is not a pre-requisite.  Be reassured though that we provide regular teaching on Communion in our Cool Christians sessions (as we do to the wider adult congregation!). If you do wish your child to start to receive all I ask is that you let me know in advance.

On 11th and 12th March a good group of us are attending the New Wine Leadership Conference in Hammersmith.   There is still space for others to join us and if you book before the end of the month the cost is just £70 (£50 for those under 30).  Do consider coming along if you can book here.

I hope you have a good week and look forward to seeing you soon.
