Vicar's update 19th March
Caroline and I were surprised and somewhat overwhelmed on Sunday morning. We honestly had no idea that anything was planned until just after the 10.30 service when the Churchwardens walked us through to the Church Centre and told us that a surprise lunch was planned to mark our 10th anniversary of being here. It was really lovely to see so many friends, have greetings from former curate Steve Morris and to be joined by our last curate Ajay More. We are amazed that you also managed to get our own family there without us suspecting why! We want to thank everyone who played a part in planning and serving at the event, to all of you who bought food for us to eat and for the extraordinarily generous gift that we received. We are also grateful for the ongoing privilege of serving as leaders at St Stephen’s. It’s been an exciting journey so far and we are looking forward with expectancy to all that God plans to do at St Stephen’s in the coming years.
Mark Tate launched our new sermon series on Sunday. As we journey through Lent we will be looking at how we can rely on God. His excellent talk is here.
Our friends on The Grove Community would love anyone from St Stephens to join for all or part of an event called The Noise 2019 this Saturday (9:30am to 5:30pm). Jobs will include weeding, pruning, tilling, spreading new soil/ manure, repairing any damaged veg beds etc. The day will finish with tea and cake at 4:30 for the sheltered accommodation and volunteers. If anyone can volunteer to bake something and/or be willing to serve and clear up please contact Mark Tate to sign up or for more details.
This Sunday Open to God is at 6.30pm. Last week a group of us were greatly encouraged and inspired by all we experienced at the New Wine Leadership Conference. Following on from that, we believe that God is calling us to soak in his presence with a time of extended sung worship and prophetic prayer. Do come if you are able.
If you are thinking of joining us at Week 1 of the New Wine Summer Conference now would be a good time to book up as the places are nearly all gone.
Completed Electoral Roll forms need to be returned by 31st March so if you are still to complete one please do so as soon as possible.
Have a good week.
