Vicar's update 7th May
I hope you are well. I have missed being at St Stephen’s over the past couple of Sunday's as my Area Dean responsibilities have taken me to other churches. I will be back this coming Sunday and look forward to catching up again.
Next Thursday (30th) is Ascension Day when we begin 10 days of prayer called Thy Kingdom Come. This started as an initiative from the Archbishops but has now spread into a global and ecumenical movement. Please do join is and be praying for family and friends who do not yet know Jesus and also for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. In addition to our usual services you can take part by joining:
Thursday 30th May 8pm - Ascension Day Communion
Saturday 1st June 10.30am - Quiet Morning
Monday 3rd - Friday 7th June 8am - Daily Prayer
Saturday 8th June 10am - Hand to Hand packing (see below)
Sunday 9th June 6.30pm- Pentecost Celebration
On Saturday 8th June we are joining with other local churches in Hand to Hand - helping pack food which will be shipped to places in our world where people suffer from warm famine and disease (see clip here). Thank you to the few who have already signed up – we really need more people to offer to help – it will only be for about 1 hour. It’s a great way to work with other local Christians in doing something really positive – click here to register .
This Sunday (26th) we have our usual morning services and Open to God at 6.30pm. If you’ve not been before this is a time for seeking the presence of God in extended sung worship, exploring the use of the gifts of the Spirit, teaching and prayer ministry. This week we continue our teaching by Mike Pilavachi (Soul Survivor) and the subject is ‘practicing prophecy’. These are really practical sessions so come along and find out more.
Have a good week.
