Vicar's update 16th JulySteve Newbold1 Small

On Sunday we welcomed Richard Todd from Lamb Hospital (one of our mission partners) to speak at both the 9am and 10.30am services.  You can listen to his talk on our website.  One of the things he spoke about was the challenge of whether or not to give to those begging on the streets.  The general advice is that it is best to give food and drinks rather than money – you may be interested in this article which provides helpful guidance.

On Sunday we also spoke about the urgent need for more volunteers to serve on teams at church.  We are struggling in a number of areas and need more people to help out in order to run our Sunday services.  In particular we need:

  • Sound & Vision team – You don’t need any previous experience as training will be provided - one shift per month. Speak to or email ash@ststephens-ealing.org
  • Serving team – This means setting up for Communion before the service, assisting during the service and clearing away afterwards.  At 9am the server wears a robe and processes in with the priest but at 10.30 just sits in the congregation. We need new members for this team at both services. Full training will be given. Speak to me or email steve@ststephens-ealing.org if you are interested.
  • Church Preparation team – One or two people set out the hall with tables and chairs on a Saturday afternoon at the time that suits them.  Are you able to help just once a month?  Speak to one of the Churchwardens (caroline@ststephens-ealing.org or dele@ststephens-ealing.org

Our children’s Holiday Club runs from 27th – 30th August – more details here .  This is a great opportunity for children to come and have fun together and learn more about the Biblical account of Joseph. Do book in as soon as you can before the places are taken and please spread the word amongst your children’s friends.

New Wine starts on 27th July - why not come along for a day and join us to find out what is so special about New Wine? Peterborough is within striking distance and both Day & Evening Tickets are available on New Wine website here

The schools have already or will soon be breaking up for the summer term but church life continues so do join us over the coming weeks.  This Sunday we have 9am Traditional Worship, 10.30am Informal Worship with children's groups, 6.30pm Evening Prayer.

Wishing you a good week.
