Vicar's update 23rd JulySteve Newbold1 Small

Those of us who went to New Wine had a great time despite a rather wet start!  Once the weather changed we enjoyed great fellowship, inspiring worship and challenging teaching.  We will be going again in 2020 (25th July – 1st August) and would love for more to join us.   New Wine now takes place in Peterborough and there are lots of options to stay in local hotels, Air BnB or cottages as well as the more usual camping on site.  New Wine is great for families and adults alike.  Tickets for United 2020 can be bought now at a discounted price – click here for details.

I am pleased to tell you that we have appointed Morgen Edwards in a new role as part time Children’s Worker (working the equivalent of one day per week).  Her main responsibilities will be to develop the vision for our children’s work, and work alongside Janet Sehgal in leading Shining Stars (our mid-week toddler group) and with Celia Manwaring to oversee Cool Christians.  Morgen will start in this role on 1st September and will also continue as our Communications Manager.

Tomorrow, Tuesday at 8pm is our monthly Prayer and Praise Meeting as we gather to pray for our church and its ministry.  Do come if you are able.

This coming Sunday (11th August) we will say farewell to Ash Abbott as he leaves us to join the staff team at St Michael’s Southfields.  He will lead the band at 10.30 and we will have a special Café Extra afterwards so that we have time to say goodbye.  Ash has been employed as our Worship Pastor for almost 3 years and has made a huge difference to the worshipping life of St Stephen’s – we know that we will miss him.

We have had a good response to the advertisement for a new Worship Pastor and are interviewing 3 candidates this Wednesday (7th August).  Part of the selection process is that those being interviewed will be asked to rehearse with a band and then lead some sung worship with a live congregation.  If you would like to join us to be part of that congregation do come along for an hour at 1.30pm sharp.  All we ask is that you enthusiastically take part to encourage each candidate as they seek to give of their best.  Please pray for us that we would make a good appointment.

Have a good week.

Steve
