Vicar's update 20th JulySteve Newbold1

I hope you are well and have had a good weekend.

Throughout the summer, St Stephen’s Online continues to take place at 11am every Sunday and is followed by our Zoom Café catch up.  We are continuing our new sermon series looking at some of great but perhaps less well known characters found in the Bible – this week Josiah.  If you watch on Facebook, please do ‘share’ the service when you start each week as it opens up a whole new group of friends who might dip into our worship.

If you wish to join us in Church for the 9am service of Holy Communion you need to book online here (with a link at the bottom of the page) before Saturday at 12 noon.  The Church of England have introduced new guidelines and from now on face coverings should be worn throughout the service by all those attending a place of worship.  As with other public spaces there are exemptions and we understand if you fall into one of those categories.

A reminder that as the lockdown restrictions continue to ease and we are able to meet together again, our Thought for the Day will end on Friday (31st July).  We hope that these daily reflections have proved helpful to you during this difficult time and I am grateful to the  many people who have contributed often personal and challenging reflections and to Caroline Newbold and Morgen Edwards who have made it possible for us to receive them each day.   We're not stopping completely just yet - during August there will be a Thought for the Week issued on a Wednesday so look out for that.

This Wednesday we will be interviewing two applicants for the post of Youth Pastor – please pray for the candidates and that the interview panel make wise decisions.

The New Wine at home weekend United Breaks Out starts this Thursday evening 30th July and runs until Monday 3rd August.  The full details of the programme and the sessions can be found here.  There something for everyone, children and youth groups, seminars, worship and teaching and Archbishop Justin will be speaking on Sunday evening.  If you are around do dip in.

This Friday (31 July) is our monthly fun Online Quiz - join from 7.45  for an 8pm start.  It's about an hour long and if you wish you can form a team.  Those who have asked to be on the mailing list will have been sent joining instructions this morning.  If you have not and would like to join in all are welcome - do email Jane Maffett for the zoom ID and with any questions.

This week you can join in online:

  • Tuesday at 9am Morning Prayer on Zoom
  • Tuesday at 11am Shining Stars on our Facebook page – note this will be the last session until September
  • Wednesday at 9pm Night Prayer on our Facebook page
  • Friday at 8pm online Quiz Night
  • Sunday at 11am St Stephen’s Online – join via the link on the Church website, Facebook or You Tube on your Smart TV.

I know that many people are now managing to take breaks and if you are going away we pray that you would have a good time but whatever you are doing, take care, keep well and have a good week

Steve
