Vicar's update 26th OctoberSteve Newbold1

I hope you are well have had a good weekend.

We have amended our Sunday booking system on the Church website to make it easier for everyone.  Now, only one person in each household needs to register and state who else is coming.  For the 11am service please also book spaces in our Children and Youth groups (there is a separate youth group each week in the meeting room).  If you are on a team or rota please also register so that we have everyone’s details.

Thank you to everyone who gave to our appeal at Harvest.  Over £1,800 was donated which will be shared between Christian Aid and Tearfund.

We held our Annual Church Meeting last week which, despite the ongoing challenges of Covid-19 was an encouraging and positive time.  I am delighted that Caroline Jamieson and Mary Ann Auckland were elected as our Churchwardens.  We have a great team now in place - details of all those elected at the meeting are attached to this mailing.

On Saturday (31st October), we want to proclaim the light of Christ in contrast to the darkness of Halloween.  On Saturday morning (10am - 12 noon) the church will be open for personal prayer and reflection - suggestions for focussing prayer will be available.  Just turn up on the day and register (as per Covid requirements) at reception.  For those who would like, personal and confidential Prayer Ministry will be offered by our trained Prayer Ministry team in a separate private area – please book ahead by contacting Liz Cooper (liz.cooper05@gmail.com) to avoid waiting although this isn’t essential as spaces may well be available.

Then on Saturday evening we are hosting our free ‘Light Party’ from 5-7pm.  This will be rather different to usual gathered event at Church and instead will comprise of a Covid compliant trail undertaken outside just in your family group...all children must be accompanied by an adult.  If you would like your (primary school age) child(ren) to attend please call Morgen Edwards on 07549 004 052 to book a time slot to arrive. Social distancing guidelines will be in place.  Wrap up warm and wear bright colours as you join the ‘Light Party Quest’!   We are also in need of a few people to help ‘marshal and guide’ at the Light Party.  If you are free and able from 4:30-7:30pm on Saturday October 31st please email Morgen Edwards admin@ststephens-ealing.org ASAP.

During the time for personal prayer on Saturday and also on Sunday 1st November, we will also have a small sale of Christmas Fairtrade goods as well as some items which are passed their sell by (not use by) date and can be taken for a modest donation.

Along with hundreds of other churches across the country on Saturday 14th November at 8pm we are again taking part in the annual Tearfund Big Quiz Night.   This is similar to our own monthly quiz but uses the Tearfund-set quiz rounds.  You are welcome to join in by yourself or with others (maybe your Connect Group using whatsapp / texts / phones to discuss your answers).  This is a major fundraiser for Tearfund so we will be asking for donations to support their excellent work.  Make a note in your diary and think about whether you are sorting a team.

During November we will be marking some special events in our Sunday services:

1st November              All Saints Day
8th November              Remembrance Sunday
15th November            Climate Sunday
22nd November           The Persecuted Church
29th November            Advent Sunday

Have a good week.

Steve
