Vicar's update 22nd MarchSteve Newbold1

This coming Sunday, we begin the gradual process of reopening our church for public worship and you can now make a booking on the website to reserve a seat at the Palm Sunday 9am Communion.  Details of all our Holy Week services (online and in person) are listed on our website here.

Starting next Sunday there is an Easter Story Trail around local roads which is designed for children to do with parents/carers.  Full details will be posted on our website.

As we cannot distribute a Palm Cross to everyone this year (note: they will only be available to those coming to the 9am service), you may like to make your own out of paper or even a long stalk from your garden.  Morgen Edwards has made a short video showing how to make a simple cross here – why not have a go and bring your cross along to our 11am Livestream service next Sunday.

Yesterday, at our 11am service we concluded our series in the book of Hebrews as Dinos Horattides helped us think about the sacrifice of Jesus. We also said farewell to Beth Skelton, our Youth Pastor who is leaving us at the end of the month.   You can catch up here

Colin Vickery’s funeral will take place next Monday (29th) at 12noon.  It will be livestreamed and if you would like the livestream link please do let me know.

Some of you will remember the Revd June Winfield who was one of the first women to be ordained in London and served on the staff here at St Stephen’s.  Sadly, June died yesterday morning from cancer which was diagnosed just eight weeks ago.  Rosemary Beardow (rbeardow@aol.com) is the point of contact for the funeral arrangements.

As you know, as well as serving as Vicar here, I have also been the Area Dean of Ealing since 2015.  My term of office as Dean is now ending and the role will be passed to the Revd David Neno (Vicar of St Peter’s Ealing).   This means that I should have more time (and hopefully energy) to devote to our life together at St Stephen’s.

This coming week as well as our Palm Sunday services (9am in Church and 11am Livestream) we have:

  • Morning Prayer on Tuesday and Thursday at 9am
  • Holy Communion on Wednesday at 11am
  • Stations of the Cross on Wednesday at 8pm (different Zoom code this week)
  • JAM – Children’s Groups on Sunday at 9.30am and 10am
  • Zoom at Noon – informal catch up from 11.45am

All of these are on Zoom and if you want the passcodes, do contact me.

Have a great week - with my love and prayers

Steve
