Vicar's Update

Monday 13th February 2023

Yesterday we continued our sermon series looking at some of the promises found in the Bible.  We explored Acts 12:1-17 and thought about how God answers prayer but that we also have to deal with disappointment - you can catch up here.    Next week we will be ending the sermon series by thinking about God’s promise to forgive us our sins.

I am sure that we are all shocked by the huge earthquake that has affected large parts of Turkey and Syria.  We are not holding a separate church collection but do encourage you to give to direct to one of the Christian organisations who we regularly support and are already working in Turkey/Syria - Tearfund  and Christian Aid. Alternatively give to the national Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC)  (both Tearfund and Christian Aid are part of DEC).

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (22nd February) and we will be marking the day by holding Communion Services at 10am and 8pm.  Both will provide the opportunity to receive a mark of ash on your forehead.

There will also be a special Lent group on Wednesday evenings, particularly aimed at those not currently attending a Connect group.  To know more or to sign up contact Caroline Newbold caroline@ststephens-ealing.org.

The Diocese are keen to have a Mental Health First Aider in every parish and are funding a two day Mental Health First Aid Course on 3rd and 9th May, 9am-5pm at Holy Trinity, Perivale. Lunch is provided and places are free. Interested – speak to Caroline Newbold caroline@ststephens-ealing.org asap.

The funeral service for Dr Huiru Gao will be held on 17th February at 12pm at St Mary's Church, Broadwater Road, Worthing.  Please pray for her family and friends at this sad time.

Next Sunday (19th February) we have our usual services at 9am and 10.30am, with children’s groups at 10.30am.

To those enjoying a half term break - have a good time and we look forward to seeing you all soon.
