This year, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. With 2 bank holidays on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June, there are 4 days of events planned to celebrate this. We know some of you will be heading into London to watch live or walk through the Tower of London moat of flowers ....
But there are six ways in which you can participate here at St Stephen's - here is something for everyone!
We want to decorate our building with bunting - and, being an eco church, make it ourselves. So do pick up a set of bunting templates and decorate as colourfully as you can during May. We will then turn them into bunting.
Cake competition. Nationally there has been a platinum pudding competition (entries now closed) so we though we would run our own on cakes! Entries invited from ALL ages, get your thinking caps on and make to bring to church on Sunday 5th June! There will be prizes in different age groups, for best decorations, best taste, most innovative etc - judged by two ex professionals. And at the cafe extra after the 10.30 service, the winners will be announced and the cakes sold off in aid of the JAM chosen charity, Ealing Foodbank. Download the form here and bring with your cake. Or pick up a form on Sunday morning.
Jubilee Lunch on Friday 3rd June from 12.30 to 3pm. A chance to celebrate with good company and some traditional dishes - including Coronation chicken! We will be outside if the weather is nice, and also plan to show the Service of Thanksgiving from St Paul's Cathedral on the screens in church (they have not yet announced the timing. Click here to let us know you would like to come so we know for our planning. No charge but donations welcome.
Platinum Jubilee Quiz - Friday 3rd June also. doors open 7.30 quiz from 8pm to 10pm. Eat first but there will be a cake table in the middle of the quiz. Why not get a group together and reserve a table? Or we can place you with others at a table. No charge but donations welcome.
Click here to sign up to the lunch or quiz now, or on the sign up list on Sunday mornings from 8th May.
Memorabilia - if anyone has any royal memorabilia or stories from the last 70 years, let Jane Maffett know and bring it to show at the lunch or on the Sunday
Pray for the Queen:
When I spoke to you last... I asked you all, whatever your religion, to pray for me on the day of my Coronation - to pray that God would give me wisdom and strength to carry out the promises that I should then be making... I have been uplifted and sustained by the knowledge that your thoughts and prayers were with me.
